Catacombes
Were rock quarries. Now you can see the bones and skeletons from way back when from old cemetaries when the cemetaries were so piled with skeletons it became a health menace. Has skulls and bones of millions of people, if that is your wish to see. Has received mixed reviews; some people like them, others not at all. Bring a flashlight. Here's information:
Catacombes - are open Tuesday to Sunday 2:00-4:00 and in addition
Saturday and Sunday mornings from 9:00-11:00.

Cell phones to rent
Here are a bunch of companies that rent cell phones. They tend to go in and out of business regularly so try several if you can't make contact. In addition to renting a phone from the following companies, here's another idea: For around the same cost as renting you can buy a phone in Paris which is used with pre-paid calling cards. The phone has no subscription or monthly service fees. A Nokia phone is sold at FNAC (multiple locations) for about $135. Service starts in just a few minutes; 30 minutes of service is included.

Computers in Paris
If you're bringing your laptop to Paris, there are several plugs/adapters you'll need.
First, you'll need a regular socket adapter as you would for any appliance you want to use in France (get the oval, not the round) so you can plug it into the wall for power. Then, if you don't have a 220-110 volt switch on your computer, you'll need a power converter also. If you need electrical power for more than just the computer (external modem, etc), you'll need more than one of each of these. A multiple socket/extension cord would be a good idea also.
To plug the modem into the telephone system, you'll need an
adapter .

Electricity
To use an American appliance in France there are 2 parts -
one you definitely need, one you may need. You definitely need
the adapter which is simply a little plastic piece that "adapts"
our spade plug into the French round prong plugs so that you can
plug it into the wall. It has nothing to do with current. You
need this adapter for every appliance, curling iron, whatever,
that you want to plug into the French socket. If you're going
to be using more than one appliance at the same time (having your
camcorder charging while you use a curling iron) get two of the
them and plug them into different sockets. What you may need is
a converter. The French current is 220 volts, ours is 110 volts
(approximately). That's twice the power of ours and if you run
our appliances directly off their current you'll burn them out.
So you need a converter to change their 220 volts to our 110 volts.
This is what a converter does. Most appliances today have dual
voltage , either automatically (you don't do anything) or a switch
you must slide over. If they don't have dual voltage you must
use a converter to change the current. You should check your appliances
for a switch, or something written on it saying "dual voltage",
or read the instruction book to see if they are
indeed dual voltage. Adapters and converters can be purchased
at Radio Shack, luggage stores, any place with travel stuff.

Kids - Traveling with
(with thanks to Kelly)
As a veteran of traveling with small kids--may I offer some unsolicited advice.
Strollers--get the good umbrella variety--MacLaren makes some great ones that are perfect for travel. Our first one made it through 4 years of nonstop use and it weighed only like 7 pounds. Or consider a getting a backpack (Kelty makes a nice one), since you will be going up and down lots of stairs. There are even backpack/stroller combos out there, which we tried with some success. Though not as comfortable as a regular stroller (lower to the ground so not as easy to push), they do in a pinch.
Car seats-obviously if you intend on using cabs, you will need these. They do have car seat/stroller combos too. If you were going to use public transit, I would say leave them at home though.
Portable cribs--If you are staying at a hotel, they will probably have one already. Just ask. Even if you are staying in an apartment, they usually have one available. When they are mentioned in the English pages on the websites, they are often called baby cots (which is Brit speak for crib). Diapers--bring only enough to get you there and for the first day or so. Diapers, including Huggies and Pampers, are available just as widely there as here. Save yourself the luggage room.
Pack sandwich size plastic bags, invaluable for many reasons, the main of which is to store dirty napes (zipped up so odor contained) until they can be conveniently disposed.
Since you are traveling with doctors, this probably goes without saying, but pack baby medicine. Kids always seem to get sick in the middle of the night and the last thing you want to do is going traipsing off in an unknown neighborhood in search of an all night pharmacy.
One last tip, pack and extra set of clothes or two for the babies for the plane of course, but also pack an extra shirt for the parents. Just in case airline travel doesn't agree with the baby and there is a stomach incident.

Kids in Paris
Here's some information and advice I send to people with kids:
Kids do really well in Paris. Everything is so different. Walking the small streets, stopping in the shops, walking along and across the Seine, sitting at a cafe - they really don't get bored at all. Don't overdo the museums. There are parks where they can sail little boats that you rent (Tuileries, Luxembourg) and many carousels. Really great tip that I would do if I were taking kids of all ages: Get and read a little children's book (that I love) called "Linnea in Monet's Garden" by Christina Bjork and Lina Anderson. It's the sweetest, prettiest book. You can visit many places in Paris they talk about visiting in the book. If you have time, do what they did in the book - go to the Musee Marmottan and then to Giverney to Monet's house and gardens. The kids, and you, will love seeing all the places after reading about them and seeing pictures of them.
Walk along the Seine and see the barges and boats. Go on the Ferris wheel at Place de la Concorde (if it's still there). Go on some of the carousels. Take a boat ride on the Seine. Go up the Eiffel Tower.
For little girls of all ages (OK, so Im not PC), theres a doll museum, Musee de la Poupee - at LImpasse Berthaud - Metro: Rambuteau Tuesday-Sunday Tel: 01-42-72-73-11 Just a hair north of the metro station on rue de Beauborg, turn right into LImpasse Berthaud. Open from Tuesday to Sunday, 10 am to 6 pm closed on Monday and hollidaysKids would enjoy a boat ride on the Seine and the Eiffel Tower. They enjoy the markets also., as we all do.
There's a little place that has magic shows. It's all in French but magic is magic. They also have a little exhibit hall to look around. Musee de la Curiosite et de la Magie. 11, rue St Paul Wed, Sat, Sun 2-7
ThereÕs a company called "A Touch of France", which organizes day trips, excursions, cooking or sketching with your children. Their number is 1-800-738-5240.
For meals, any restaurant is fine that appeals to you but with real young children I would suggest going early when they open for dinner, about 7:00. If you must go even earlier, brasseries would be your best bet.
